Overview 

The Speedmaster's identity belongs to the Moon, but the chronograph itself was originally built for the track. The 3518.50.00 is one of the few references where Omega committed to that motorsport identity outright — a 6,000-piece limited edition marking Michael Schumacher's first World Championship with Ferrari in 2000, the title that opened the Ferrari era of Formula 1.

The 39mm stainless steel case is the Speedmaster Reduced platform — Omega's smaller, automatic-winding alternative to the 42mm manual Professional. On this reference, the smaller proportion serves the design rather than diminishing it: the matte black dial with chequered motif carries a red and orange minute track with white chronograph hands and subdial accents, a treatment that reads as decisive at 39mm but would have felt heavier on the Professional case. The black aluminium tachymeter bezel anchors the dial to Speedmaster lineage; the racing motifs declare what this reference is for.

The Calibre 3220 is a modular automatic chronograph — an ETA 2892-A2 base mated to a Dubois-Dépraz chronograph module — with a 40-hour power reserve. It is a different architecture from the manual 1861 that defines the Professional, and the reasoning was practical: an automatic Speedmaster expanded the platform's daily-wear appeal without diluting the Professional's certified identity. The caseback is solid steel, engraved with Schumacher's signature, the individual production number, and the dedication to his 2000 title.

Within the Schumacher series, the Racing 3518.50.00 sits as the most overtly motorsport-themed variant. The Legend reference, 3517.50.00, carries a more restrained silver dial with red accents; the 3559.32.00 from 2003 commemorates a later title with a different design language. The Racing's value rests on the directness of its visual identity — there is no ambiguity about what this watch references. We are seeing measured upward movement on complete Schumacher sets over the past three to four years, driven by F1 cultural momentum and the increasing scarcity of original 2001 examples with full paperwork.
