Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional 3861 Hesalite 310.30.42.50.01.001

Overview 

The Calibre 1861 — a hand-wound movement derived from the Lemania ébauche — powered the Moonwatch for over four decades with minimal change. The 310.30.42.50.01.001 introduced the 3861: the same hand-wound architecture, but with Omega's Co-Axial escapement, METAS Master Chronometer certification, and magnetic resistance rated to 15,000 gauss. This Hesalite example represents the historically accurate configuration — acrylic crystal, solid caseback — the same specification as the watch NASA qualified for space use in 1965.

The case is 42mm stainless steel with the asymmetric crown-at-2 construction, on the stainless steel bracelet. The tachymeter bezel is black anodized aluminum — not ceramic, which is the correct heritage material for this reference. The dial is black, three sub-registers at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, applied baton indices, no date. The Hesalite crystal scratches more readily than sapphire but doesn't shatter — the functional reason NASA specified it — and it renders the dial with a subtly warmer tone that the sapphire variant doesn't replicate.

The primary choice in the current Moonwatch lineup is between this Hesalite configuration and the sapphire crystal variant — a decision that determines the caseback presentation as much as the crystal. The Hesalite carries its secondary value on collector preference for the original specification; the sapphire variant commands a moderate retail premium that compresses in the secondary market, where demand for the historically accurate configuration is consistent. We are currently seeing the 3861 generation hold a solid floor at secondary — the uncertainty around the calibre transition has fully cleared, and pricing now reflects what the watch is rather than the change it represented. This piece is brand, complete with box and papers dated May 2026, at RM28,500.
