Tudor Black Bay 54 "Blue Lagoon" - 37mm 79000-0001
Overview
The Black Bay 54 returns Tudor to 37mm — the case dimension of the 1954 Reference 7922, the original Tudor dive watch — in a way neither the BB58 nor the BB41 attempted. The 79000-0001 ("Blue Lagoon") is the light blue dial configuration of that return. Where the BB58 interprets the vintage diving aesthetic through a contemporary 39mm case, the BB54 replicates the original dimension directly and then makes a colour argument on top of it.
The case is 37mm stainless steel with a polished and satin-brushed finish, sized to the 1954 reference rather than the modern Black Bay family. The bezel is smooth and polished, not rotating — historically faithful to the 7922, and a decision that positions the BB54 away from tool-watch territory and toward something more broadly wearable. The light blue textured dial carries applied markers and Tudor's signature snowflake hands with Super-LumiNova; no date window, which keeps the dial symmetrical and the mid-century read intact. At 37mm with this dial treatment, the BB54 transitions across formal and casual contexts in a way the larger Black Bay variants cannot.
The movement is Tudor's in-house Calibre MT5400 — a COSC-certified automatic with a silicon balance spring and 70-hour power reserve. COSC certification means the movement is independently tested to ±4 seconds per day; the silicon balance spring removes anti-magnetic dependency. Screw-down crown; 200-metre water resistance. For a piece at this price point, the combination of in-house manufacture and independent third-party certification is a strong specification.
Within the BB54 launch range, the Blue Lagoon is the configuration with niche appeal — the light blue reads as a colour story of a brighter palette, and the five-link steel bracelet pairs with it correctly. Against the BB58 at 39mm, the BB54's argument is proportion and versatility: buyers who found the BB58 slightly large, or who want something that transitions between contexts more cleanly, will find the 37mm case the more useful dimension. We see the BB54 as Tudor's most complete proposition at this price tier — in-house movement, COSC certification, historically grounded design, and a case size that was missing from the Black Bay family. Brand new, unworn, complete with box and papers dated May 2026, at RM21,000.
