Overview 

The Santos de Cartier's design proposition is unchanged since Louis Cartier drew it in 1904: a square case, an octagonal bezel, eight exposed screws, a face that reads as architectural rather than ornamental. The WSSA0029 is the Medium format of the current generation, updated in 2018 with Cartier's QuickSwitch strap-change and SmartLink bracelet-adjustment systems — practical additions without altering what the watch is. At 35.1mm it sits at the most wearable point in the Santos range across different wrist sizes and contexts.

The case is 35.1mm stainless steel with alternating polished and brushed surfaces; the octagonal bezel carries eight exposed flat-head screws on its face. The dial is silvered opaline with Roman numerals, blued-steel sword hands, and a railroad minute track at the perimeter. No date. That absence keeps the dial symmetrical and uninterrupted — the Santos's case and dial are designed as a single geometric system, and a date window would break that system.

The Calibre 1847 MC is Cartier's automatic, with a 42-hour power reserve and nickel-phosphorus components that provide natural resistance to magnetic fields without a dedicated shielding cage. The 42-hour reserve is worth noting for buyers who rotate pieces — the watch stops running after less than two days unworn. Movement credentials are not the purchase argument for this reference; the Santos is acquired for its design identity, not its calibre specification.

The Santos range's primary decision point is size — Small (~29mm), Medium (35.1mm), Large (~39mm) — rather than complication or material. The Medium is the most wearable format across different wrist sizes; the Large commits more clearly to a masculine register while the Small reads as a ladies' configuration.
