Rolex Explorer II Black Dial 226570 2023 [Preowned]

Overview 

The Explorer II was introduced in 1970s when it was introduced for cave explorers, jungle and polar explorers - whereby it was difficult to distinguish between day and night in these places.

The Explorer II's unique feature was a 4th hand and a 24-hour marker bezel - which acts as a AM/PM indicator. Only in the newer references - did the 4th hand had the ability to tell a second time-zone.

This is the new reference 226570 which replaces the outgoing model 216570. This new reference is introduced in 2021 and features some new design elements and a new calibre movement (the same as the 126710 GMT Master II). Besides the slight redesign of the case and crown guard (slimmer case and slimmer crown guard), the bracelet feels slightly larger (1mm on overall). 

This reference 226570 is the current production Explorer II.
