Overview 

The Rolex Datejust was first released in 1945 - and a very important part of the Rolex collection. The Rolex Thunderbird is a timepiece that holds a special place in Rolex's iconic collection of watches. Also known as the Rolex Datejust Turn-O-Graph, it combines the classic elegance of the Datejust line with the functionality of a rotating bezel, making it a versatile and highly sought-after model among collectors and watch enthusiasts.

Released in the 1950s, the Thunderbird 16264 was initially designed as a tool watch for pilots. Its rotating bezel served as a practical feature for aviators, allowing them to measure elapsed time and coordinate their flights accurately. Over time, it gained popularity beyond the aviation community and became recognized as a timeless symbol of style and sophistication.

The origin of the name "Thunderbird" comes from the nickname of the USAF Air Demonstration Squadron, established in 1953, which was the first supersonic aerobatic team. As the story goes, one pilot started wearing a Turn-O-Graph watch, with it eventually becoming the team’s go-to timepiece, and the moniker quickly followed soon after.
